SAMOLT is my genre-defying debut album portraying the broad spectrum of human existence; heartbreak, uncertainty, discrimination, and anxiety meet hopefulness, serenity and a sense of purpose and unity. The title comes from Pariah’s spoken word bit.

My music is an alt-pop soundtrack of anthropology, as I write from a personal perspective while reflecting on more global concerns, intuitions, and realities. Mental health, the concept of time, discrimination, redemption, loneliness, friendship, relinquishment, and sapiosexuality are some of the themes I negotiate in my songs and it’s this variety that results in my genre-agnostic music orientation.

Glow & Ignite is probably the happiest song written about how lonely it feels when struggling with anxiety; Pariah is about society progressing to the point that we can now point the finger to those who have been discriminating against people based on their race, gender, age, body and class; Never Giving Up On You is a hymn to friendship and our chosen families; Hey Girl is a comfort song addressed to women and non-binary people, a reminder of our solodarity and beauty; Hype-up is a song about seeking for any sort of excitement amidst global and personal turmoil; Maybe In Another Life is a song about dealing with the concept of time as part of a generation facing the worst post-war world crisis while striving to make their dreams come true; Rules is a ballad about recognising and accepting weakness as a natural part of life and in the process of learning and growing; Butterflies is inspired by the film ‘Call Me By Your Name’and it’s about falling in love with someone who stimulates you intellectually.

The message of my songs as a whole is all about embracing diversity, collective pain and trauma and turning them into empowerment. SAMOLT amplifies my motto, which is the encouragement to “dance with your shadow”, meaning embracing our dark side and using it as a driving force and inspiration. In this album, everyday stories of vulnerability are given agency through songs made for everyone – including myself – to dance our troubles away.
